Thanksgiving Music?
I endured about an hour and a half of non-stop Christmas music earlier this week, while eating at The Cheesecake Factory. I was upset about the presence of Christmas music since Thanksgiving had not happened yet. Over the course of an incredibly large plate of pasta I pondered about the subject of holiday music, and I realized that there was no Thanksgiving music. Why is there no Thanksgiving music? You would think that presidential turkey pardons, being with family, giving thanks, obscene amounts of food, pilgrims, Indians, sharing, etc, would all be wonderful subjects of songs. However, that I know of, there is no market for Thanksgiving music. Instead there are non-stop jingles about a fat man in a red suit jumping down chimneys.
I can't help but wonder that Thanksgiving music does not exist because it is not associated with commercialism. Christmas music helps get everybody in the mood for buying gifts, which is why retail stores and commercial establishments encourage it so much. In contrast, Thanksgiving music would mostly get people in the mood for eating with family. Hum...

For the record, you are not alone on thinking this question... I was online today looking up that same question... an internally my thoughts echoed your muse... "that Thanksgiving music does not exist because it is not associated with commercialism. Christmas music helps get everybody in the mood for buying gifts, which is why retail stores and commercial establishments encourage it so much. In contrast, Thanksgiving music would mostly get people in the mood for eating with family." I emphatically agree. Contentment does not breed consumerism.
It is certainly a crying shame we don't have songs of peace and contentment for Thanksgiving. If we had as many songs about Thanksgiving that would delight the heart as we do for Christmas, we would be so much better off in so many ways.
Just a thought... "Save Money, Live Better" transalted reads for real..."Consume More, Think You Live Better, but don't see that you for sure a diverting a lot of pain, environmental destruction, resource extraction, and pollution to other countries so we don't have to our consciences smitten.
Thanksgiving was started by Pilgrims who were thankful that the Indians has given them the know how to get through their initial seasons in "New" world. Guess what happened to the generous Indians with "advancement" of the Pilgrim's "civilization"? This civilization exists to this day.
If we dwelled on thankfulness and contentment, we would quickly realize we could not rationalize the corrosive ways of an "ever upward civilzation." We need to have a threshold.
Because we are afraid of the consequences of rationalizing our deep feelings... our thoughts on this subject may often amount to wayward muses. Melanchonic echos in hollow chambers. What is our threshold where demand more and constructively change our destructive civilization
